Departure from ATL to AMS at 10:25 pm.

Today was the day that I had been so eagerly awaiting! My mom and I left Savannah at 2:00 this afternoon and made our way to Macon. We figured it be easier to take a shuttle/ cab to the Atlanta airport and get dropped off rather than search for parking and wander around the airport aimlessly while lugging my suitcase around the entire airport (because with my luck that would happen). Already filled with nerves and anxiousness, it was just a smarter move for us.

However, of course...although we left home with PLENTY of time to spare, there were some unpredictable delays that would hinder a prompt arrival at the airport (Atlanta traffic). Dr. Pascoe sent an email to all the students telling us to meet at the Maynard Jackson portrait located in the International Terminal Atrium by 6:30-7:00. I ended up being the last one to arrive. Thankfully, it wasn't an issue because we wouldn't begin boarding until 10:00ish. Now that I finally got there, I would check-in and my month journey would begin.

Getting to know my classmates and travel companions

Once we got on the plane and everyone was settled, we were served dinner. KLM brought out a couple of meals options that we could choose from. Between the chicken entree and pasta dish, I opted for a pasta plate with olive and marinara sauce. With that came a small roll with butter, a box with a captain wafer and cheese in it along with a side of black-eyed peas. Finally, for dessert, there was a cinnamon square cake. Although, I was still on US time, I ate what was put in front of me. Obviously, the food wasn't anything to get overly excited about, but it did get us psyched for authentic Italian meals as we nibbled on our TV pasta dinner.

A few hours later, we were given another meal. This was considered "breakfast" although it was 5:00 EST. This meal consisted of a fruit cup with watermelon, pineapple, and cantaloupe, strawberry yogurt, a bread roll with grape jelly, a side of sausage and potato, and an egg omelet with cheese and bacon bits. Again, it tasted like airline food, but it was food and I tasted a little bit of everything.

After a long flight, we would arrive in Amsterdam. Our layover wasn't very long and I think everyone was very eager to have the opportunity to walk around and stretch. Our next and last stop would be in Florence!
